Day 10: Thursday, April 7th Update

Henry is once again holding steady & healing.  Dr. Jones came by today and expects a few more days on the CPAP assisted breathing.

The goal for the next few days is to slowly wean Henry off of his sedation meds.  They are going to do this by switching them from IV to oral.  After this is done, we can hopefully take the PICC line out!

He is now off of TPN & Lipids and is only getting breastmilk, which is up to 49cc's!  He's giving us plenty of diapers to go along with that too.  :)

The most significant thing that happend today is that I got to hold Henry again for the first time in over a week!

Kangaroo care is skin-to-skin contact which strengthens bonding for the parents and the baby.  It felt so good to hold him!

Hopefully tomorrow it'll be Daddy's turn!
Betty (Bebe) flew back to Midland tonight. We had a great visit this week and I really enjoyed her company in the NICU. I know Charlie loved having her around too. She spoils him by playing with him and taking him for lots of walks in his wagon!  Thanks for coming Bebe, and we can't wait till your next visit!

Trey and I are learning that some of our wonderful nurses and doctors are reading our blog! How cool! We just want to say thank you so much for taking such good care of our baby boy. We have great respect for what you do everyday! I'm sure you're finding lots of errors in our understanding of all the medical terms... hopefully it'll give you a few laughs. ;)
It never fails right when I need to leave to pick up Charlie, Henry decides to wake up and charm me with his sweet little eyes.  He has the most precious little soul and my love just overflows for this little baby when he looks at me.  I can't wait till we can see his whole face without ventilators, tubes, cpaps and tape!
