San Diego! Stop 2: San Diego Zoo

If you know us, you know we love a zoo.  So there was no question that we'd be going to the famous San Diego zoo while we were there!  It did not disappoint.  We were nervous it'd be packed it being Spring Break and all.. but when we got there bright and early there was nobody there!  Come to find out CA has Spring Break in April sometime.  Awesome!

I have a million pics of the animals but I'll just post a few.
The zoo is quite large.. and we weren't sure how long the boys would last so we tried to hit up our favorite animals 1st.  Enter my fave... the giraffes!
There were so few people in the Urban Jungle part of the zoo that we let Charlie run around.  He was so excited and would quickly look at one animal before running to the next one!
Henry -as always- happy as can be observing from his seat.

After exploring the Jungle, we headed to the PANDAS!  We were excited to see them because they are kind of their star attraction, and because the Houston zoo doesn't have any.

After the pandas we headed up to the Northern Frontier to see the Polar Bears.  When I was 12 my parents surprised me & my brother with a trip to CA and the one thing I remember about the zoo was the polar bears.  While they weren't very memorable this trip, the zoo had some fun children exhibits the boys loved!

One of the other highlights of the San Diego zoo is they have a gondola that flies over the entire zoo and will take you back down to the bottom.  I was a little nervous Charlie would be afraid, but Nope!

Henry wasn't scared either.... ;)
It was quite a view!  It only lasted 4 minutes so we rode it a second time later in the day!

When we got back to the bottom we headed over to the Lost Forest to see all of the monkeys!

At this point I was losing steam fast... Henry was sleeping in the stroller and Trey & Charlie were still going!  Charlie discovered the zoo map and insisted we see the hippopotamus.
Unfortunately they were waaaaaaaaaaaaay at the top left of the map and we were not.  Off we went.. feet aching and all.  After all, how often are we at the San Diego zoo?  My baby deserves to see that hippo.

When we got there....
Passed out!

On a normal day, we wouldn't dare waking Charlie up EVER.  He is not a happy camper if one of his (few & far between) naps is cut short.  I was not going to let him miss that hippo though.  Trey was embracing for quite a scene, but he actually woke up happily to see that huge hippo!

Made me happy to see his eyes light up!

This was the end of our zoo adventure.  At this point we had made it 6 hours, and we were all happy and exhausted... ready for a nap!

Love making memories with my boys... even if they are too young to remember it forever. :)

  1. We have done the SD zoo several times ... with Misty's kids and then with my grandkids. Never disappoints. So glad you had such a memorable trip to lovely southern California.
